AI as Infrastructure

Relay is an OS-level system that allows users to delegate their phone calls and voicemails to AI agents of their choice. Relay keeps track of real-time and post-call transcripts, as well as context learning, memory, and the ability to autonomously execute social tasks for the user. It also acts as a call screening tool with the autonomy to relay complex/sensitive calls to the user. Switchboard is the universal protocol that allows for AI agents, regardless of developer, to be integratable and controllable via Relay settings.

With the Gartner Hype Cycle predicting that Generative AI will inevitably reach its peak in the near future, Relay explores how Generative AI will look and function after it reaches a fully integrated state of mainstream adoption. At its core, Relay and Switchboard represent AI as digital infrastructure.

(Two-part prototype is available on Firebase to try, but is only available upon request as it runs on my home Node.js server)

Problem Statement

Menial phone calls are a chore nobody wants but everybody needs.

How might we integrate AI into the phone call, without making the human disappear from it?
